Para-Rowing provides athletes with a physical or intellectual impairment the opportunity to be active on the water, get involved in a fun and friendly club environment, and participate in a variety of competitions from club regattas through state and national championships to world championships and Paralympic Games. The sport can cater for athletes with a variety of impairments.
There are two rowing clubs in South Australia that have the facilities to support adaptive athletes rowing. Torrens Rowing Club are based within the metropolitan area with sheds within the city and at West Lakes. Murray Bridge Rowing Club are one hour away from the city training on the River Murray; both have excellent facilities and para programs.
South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) work alongside Rowing SA and Rowing Australia within the pathway program for talented Para athletes to represent the state and nation in Para Rowing events. SASI support ongoing recruitment of para athletes through the Talent Identification initiative for athletes with no prior rowing experience in the row4gold program, while Associate and High Performance Scholarships are also available.
