Disability Recreation & Sports SA (DRSSA) is the home of sports in South Australia for those living with physical disabilities. We strive to support people living with a disability and their families to lead active, healthy and social lives through participation in recreation, fitness and sport. DRSSA helps connect its members with opportunities, assisting individuals to locate recreational activities most suited to them.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely heavily on donations and are occasionally the recipient of grants and state government support. Members of our organisation are the beneficiaries of these funds, which are used to develop local programs, purchase sporting equipment and uniforms, hire sporting venues, upskill volunteers, and subsidise travel expenses for teams and individuals who compete interstate or internationally.
The Inaugural Wheels at Work is a fundraising campaign to raise awareness of workplaces and how they cater to people living with a disability, and through this, raise money to help DRSSA support the implementation of sporting and recreational programs for people living with disabilities in South Australia.
Participating Company Executives (CEO’s, General Managers) will spend their work day in a Wheelchair, going about their normal duties.
Participating Executives will source corporate and personal donations that aim to raise awareness of inclusive workplaces and to help support the DRSSA fundraising campaign.
Funds raised will support program administration and the purchase and maintenance of equipment used to facilitate sporting programs.
When & Where is
Wheels At Work Conducted?
Wheels at Work will be conducted in the participant’s workplace.
DRS will deliver the wheelchair to the participant’s work place one day prior to the confirmed participation day.
Wheels at work will provide the participant and co-workers an insight into what it is like living with a disability and the difficulties face in the work place.
Participants don’t have to change their schedules, diaries or commitments, just experience them from the perspective of someone with a physical disability.
How do we
raise money for
Wheels at Work?
Company executives (CEO’s or GM’s) participating in the Wheels at Work fundraiser will seek sponsorship from their peers, co-workers, community members.
Corporate Matching – Don’t forget to see if your employer has a Corporate Matching Gift program. Many Corporations will match their employee’s contributions to a non-profit organisation. This is a great way to increase the money you raise.
We’d like to see each executive raise $10,000 for this cause – all donations are tax deductible
DRSSA will promote organisations that donate over $2,000 on our website and social media as a public thanks for their support
